Schlagwort: Islamischer Staat

„Nine days before the Paris attacks, Islamic State leaders gathered in the Syrian town of Tabqah to talk about what was coming next for the terror organisation. Senior officials from across the so-called caliphate had made difficult journeys under constant fear of airstrikes to the small town west of Raqqa.…

„The Islamic State terror group published an article explaining why it does not attack the Jewish state, arguing that the Palestinian issue should not get preferential treatment. … In the article, which was translated by watchdog group MEMRI, the Islamic State argued that the Palestinian cause does not take precedence…

„Getting from Turkey to Europe was a cakewalk compared to escaping the Islamic State-run city of Fallujah, says one Iraqi. Fleeing families must cross a reservoir, in a ten-passenger boat, on an active battlefield.“ (Spannende Reportage, hier)

„Although the eruption of popular protest, regime violence, and civil war created conditions under which jihadist militancy could thrive, Syria had already been fertile ground for Sunni extremism. For many years prior to 2011, the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had maintained a consistently flirtatious relationship with Sunni jihadists.…

„The suspected Islamic State bomber who killed three Israelis in Saturday’s bombing in Istanbul followed the tour group from their hotel to the restaurant, and waited outside for them before detonating his explosives, reports said Monday. „Considering that without the US veto Israel would have already been blacklisted by the UN Security Council; considering that Israel is treated worse than North Korea and Nigeria at the Human Rights Council; considering that at UN schools in Gaza Hamas stocks missiles to be launched against Israel; considering that…

„Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed and crucified a Syrian man in the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor after accusing him of supporting ‚a hostile party‘, activists reported on Monday. „The 22-year-old victim was arrested at a restaurant in central Deir ez-Zor for talking about the Kurdish advance towards…

„[T]the notion that people both in the Middle East and in the West get radicalised in response to Western interventions in the Muslim world is nonsense. This claim is nothing more than a rhetorical pillar for the grievance and victimhood ‚theology‘ of jihadism. Its purpose is to give colour to…

„IS is in many respects a project of Saddam Hussein’s now-outlawed Baath Party, but with a different ideology. Former agents or officers of the former Iraqi president’s regime dominate its leadership. … The ex-Baathists shape the group’s jihadist ideology, handle its security (weeding out infiltrators or possible putschists) and military…

„The group now known as ISIS was founded in early 2000 with Al-Qaeda seed money at a camp in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. ISIS’ founder, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, did not formally swear allegiance to Osama bin Laden until 2004, but the two pooled resources, notably on the Millennium Plot, which was meant…
